In 1999 I was a housewife and stay-at-home mom of a ten-year-old boy. In other words, I was as ordinary a person as you’ll ever find. On that fall day in rural Connecticut I read the following verse in my Bible:

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.

Psalm 37:4[1]

Suddenly I found the audacity to ask myself: “What is my heart’s desire?” I glanced out the window at the colorful foliage framed by the blue sky and said, “I want to live in Europe!”

The thought thrilled me as much as it terrified me. It thrilled me because I’ve always had a desire to live in Europe—ever since seeing my first picture of a flower-dotted mountain meadow in Austria. My instant reaction as a twelve-year-old girl was: I have to go live there. Not visit, live!

At the same time, the thought terrified me on many levels:

  • Language—I only spoke English and a little Spanish;
  • Money—I didn’t know how I could ever afford to pick up and move to Europe;
  • Time—my life was already very full with family and volunteer obligations;
  • Logistics—how on earth was a housewife ever going to move to Europe?

It looked impossible! It was impossible, humanly speaking. But I felt like this was an invitation from God Almighty. And, crazy as it sounds, I believed that if God was inviting me, then He had every intention of making it happen. So I began praying. Every day I prayed to move to Europe. I decided early on to leave the “how” to God (after all, He’s God, right?). My part was simply to pray and believe. So I prayed. I prayed with conviction. I prayed in confident belief. I prayed against all odds. And two years later my husband was offered a job in Italy. Long story short: I have lived in Italy for most of the last 20 years.

I had learned the secret of making my dreams come true. Now I am a certified Health Coach, a certified Life Coach, and a speaker and writer on dream manifesting. What is your dream? If you could leave the “how” up to God, what does the life of your dreams look like? Which area(s) of your life need improvement: health, relationships, career, or time/money freedom?
